Technical Description of the Implementation

New line restores seamless surface finishing of roof tiles

Following flash flooding, the steel roof tile manufacturer Isola Powertekk s.r.o. had to quickly restore its surface-finishing process. The new coating line comes as a complete technological solution that helped resume stable and efficient production for the company while maintaining high standards of workplace safety and environmental protection. The solution? An automated roof tile coating line that links base coat, basalt granule application, top sealing layer and subsequent drying into a single, sequential process. So how does our line work in practice?

Flexible application for different roof tile variants

The surface finishing of basalt-coated steel roof tiles begins in an application booth with wet capture and a water curtain. Here, a wet paint base coat is applied onto the part, while overspray and waste paint are partially captured and returned to the process. The tile continues to a continuous full-surface granule station, which applies a layer of basalt across the entire area of the tile. Fitted with a second dosing station, the line allows for different colour finishes to be produced within a single line. Once applied, the basalt is fixed in place by a top spray coat, which enhances the durability and appearance of the finished steel roof tile.

Efficient transport, drying and process-water treatment

The parts are fed into and unloaded from the line by robotic stations – third-party units that we integrated into our solution. Smooth passage through the process is provided by a floor-mounted chain conveyor, on which the parts are moved individually between the application stations. Before entering the drying oven, the tiles are arranged into two rows and pass through the drying process in pairs. This arrangement helps maintain a rapid line cycle while keeping process productivity high. The technology also includes induction preheating of the parts, which creates suitable conditions for the subsequent surface-finishing steps. Furthermore, the line is complemented by a flotation unit for wastewater treatment, which processes the water generated during production and contributes to cleaner, more efficient operation.

Clear control of the production process thanks to ESCO

Smooth running of the entire coating line is ensured by the ESCO control system, which links the individual sections of the line into a single, clearly operable process. The system allows operators to easily set parameters, manage recipes and monitor key process indicators. The line therefore behaves not as a collection of separate machines but as a complete solution for the surface finishing of steel roof tiles. The result is simpler operation, greater process stability and better control over the quality of the final finish.
